Scotland beat Italy

9th Feb, 2026

Scotland produced a dominant all-round performance to beat debutants Italy by 73 runs in their Group C match at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Kolkata on 9 February 2026.

Batting first, Scotland posted a strong total of 207/4 in 20 overs, powered by a brilliant 84 from George Munsey and a solid contribution from Michael Jones. Brandon McMullen’s quickfire 41* and a late cameo of 22 off 5 balls from Michael Leask helped Scotland reach a challenging score.

Italy’s chase never really got going. Despite a fighting 52 from Ben Manenti and 37 from Harry Manenti, the visitors were bowled out for 134 in 16.4 overs. Off-spinner Michael Leask was the standout bowler, finishing with impressive figures of 4/17 to dismantle the Italian batting lineup.

The win gave Scotland a commanding start in the group, while Italy — playing their first match in a Men’s T20 World Cup — showed flashes of promise but ultimately couldn’t match Scotland’s firepower.
